First we break, then we rebuild...
The find is a challenge. We travel quite a distance to find the right bike in the right condition for the build. On a few rare occasions, the bikes find us. Then we store them away until we are ready to start tearing them down.
We check compression, spark, valves, and points. Anything the top or lower end might need addressing, we complete while the engine is removed from the frame.
We start the polishing -or most of the time "rust removing". We do our best to reclaim & reuse the original parts, but many times they must be replaced. Piston rings, plugs & wires, drive & timing chains, gaskets, valves & camshaft -all are inspected for wear & replaced. The mid 60's-70's Japanese engines are a testament to the craftsmanship & reliability, but often need refreshing after years of neglect.
We rebuild the carburetors & re-jet for the pods/velocity stacks & typically re-wire the ignition coils. Cables, fork seals, bearings, -whatever she needs, she gets.
Next the frame undergoes many man hours of cutting & grinding. Fenders, electronics, turn signals, seats, etc. are all removed -including their mounts.
The part search is constant. We stock-pile many parts, but what we don't have, we find from one of our many suppliers, eBay or we fabricate them. Seats, seat cowls, fuel tanks, rear-sets, throttle controls, tires, brake shoes & pads, handlebars, gauges, head & taillights, and exhausts -most parts are easily accessible, however, as with any custom -nothing fits without modification. We weld, we grind, we sweat, & we bleed until she is ready to ride.
Then, she get fresh fluids & she is ready to fire. We ride her, and we ride her hard. We want her to fail in our hands before we ship a bike to a buyer 1000+ miles away. Once we feel she is ready to go -we post her on eBay (unless we are contacted & she is purchased before the auction).
They sell fast. By the time our bikes are out of the photography studio, they are typically sold. However, we can build another or anything you can dream up. Our commission builds are $7000 (as of November 2012). We take 1/2 upfront & we start searching for the donor bike. Once the build begins, it takes about 4-6 weeks. You choose the tank color, seat cowl/seat style, & a few other options, we do the rest. Once your bike is complete, she is ready for your shipping company or come see our shop & pick her up yourself.
Email/Text/Call -We are always happy to answer questions about a build or help with you now build. And let us know when your ready to build your dream ride.
